The Opposite…..

Nothing is more powerful than a young woman who knows what she doesn’t want. She is at peace, simple, and content. A level of happiness comes with just existing with the opposite side of things. Knowing what you do not want simplifies the things you do.

Too often we are asked to say what we want, set goals, create boundaries and never settle for anything that doesn’t meet the standards, but we never really know what we want. We never know what we desire until we´ve experienced life enough to know what hurts or what makes us feel whole.

So I let go of this notion a long time ago. I thought I truly wanted things forced on me by the system and society. A list of things I did not fancy but who am I to loathe the life every young woman aspires to? The college education, the love, the ring, the babies, and all the wealth.

The question we forget to ask ourselves is¨What kind of love? What kind of education? What type of wealth?

It takes loving and losing to know I want a love that loves me back. The ¨Kind¨ kind. The kind that makes me see myself through clear, honest, and realistic lenses, the kind that makes me feel easy, one I don’t have to fight for. Love that is pure, wholesome, and Godly.

It takes a college degree you do not fancy and a miserable job to know what makes you happy, and that sometimes is simply rest, liberation, and art.

Sometimes, it´s experiencing wealth and seeing how fleeting it is to know you want the innate kind: good health, genuine family, and friends who accept and love you wholly. In time we will realize we´ve been chasing all the wrong things, holding on to things that don´t serve us because we are told life is only better this way. We eventually know the life we do not desire and the love we cannot accept or give.

Breathe.

Today, lay down and rest. Do not feel guilty for falling short on anything. You only fall short if you have deadlines, there are no deadlines. You are doing just fine. You don’t have to have answers or figure it out, no one does.

Choose you instead. You alone can decide your wins or failures. ¨It is all in your head¨, relax. Your story is your own, you write it. You beautiful, flawed, and worthy human. Choose you.

Life is easier that way.
